From the Editor, re: Flight 3407

February 16, 2009

Buffalo, NY is my hometown, and since The Talking Twenties started out by word of mouth, many of our writers have ties to Buffalo.  Over the last few days I’ve been touched by the sadness of this tragedy, the realness of it (it could have been any of us) and also the outpouring of community support Western New York is already seeing.

As editor of The Talking Twenties, I’d like to extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the terrible accident on Thursday night as well as our thanks to those who responded to the crash and to those who are now working to bring solace and closure to the families, find answers and secure and clean up the crash site.

If you’d like to help:
There is already a movement circulating via e-mail to nominate the Wielinski family, who lost their home when the plane crashed, for Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

Messages of condolence can also be sent through the websites for local Buffalo news stations such as wgrz.com and wivb.com.

Buffalo is infamous for its small town feel, making those untouched by the tragedy few & far between. I want to echo your sentiments.

Today marks a high point in the tragedy, as families surrounding the crash site are let back into their homes. We hope that a semblance of normalcy will allow residents to start the healing process.
